October 2, 2004

King of Peace joined together with the people and pets of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and Christ Episcopal Church for The Blessing of the Animals on October 2, sponsored by the Friends of Greyhounds.

The service was held at the Gazebo in the Waterfront Park in Saint Marys in conjunction with the Rock Shrimp Festival. The Revs. Gabe Cummings, Mac Flowers and our own pastor, Frank blessed dogs of all shapes and sizes, as well as a few hamsters. Saint Francis medals were given to the pets for their collars and cages. The service, which is traditionally done near the time of St. Francis' feast on October 4, reminds us of God's love for all creation. It is a time to pray for God's blessing for the pets who are so much a part of our lives. King of Peace also took the lead in another Blessing of the Animals service the next week at the Humane Society in Kingsland.
