Explore the time and place of Jesus' birth
July 9-13, 2007

Boys in kipotOur Kids in the Kingdom Week for 2007 will take us back to Bethlehem to learn about the time and place into which Jesus was born. Through music, crafts, stories, food and more, kids from age four through completing the fifth grade will discover Bethlehem for themselves.

This Vacation Bible School will help us to explore the stories of Christmas, without Santa or elves or the North Pole. Instead, we will learn about Jesus' birth through life in Bethlehem around year 0.

Blowing a shofarAbout Each Day

Bethlehem Village will begin daily, Monday, July 9 through Friday, July 13. The vacation Bible school will start each day at 9 a.m. with a gathering time filled with singing and dancing and end at 11:30 a.m.
The participants will be divided into four tribes and each tribe will begin the day with a review of Hebrew traditions and rituals along with a daily Bible point. The remainder of the morning will be spent at the bakery and market place doing crafts and making snacks along with a “census” time in which the kids will spend time learning about Israel and the Bible. Snack time, dramas and organized games will also be part of the fun.

How You Can Help

Volunteers are also needed to help lead the tribes, help the children with crafts in the market place and making bread and other snacks that were available in Bethlehem around the time of the birth of Jesus. Help is also needed in assisting Father Frank in leading organized games and during the “census” time.

Stomping GrapesCostumes for both participants and volunteers are also a part of this experience and help is needed sewing these simple robes. If you can’t sew but would like to contribute, fabric like used or new sheets and pillow cases in solid colors or stripes can be donated to cause.

Registration cards for both participants and volunteers will be available at the church beginning May 6. Registration for participants is open until July 1 or until 32 children have registered.

If you would like to volunteer but can’t be there the entire week, we are willing to work around your schedule. As there are different crafts and bakery items daily, you can help out with things on the days you are available.

The first planning meeting for those interested in helping out will be May 6 following the 10 a.m. service. The second meeting will be held following the 10 a.m. service on June 3 with a final meeting following the service on July 1.
